Project: Hillbilly Deluxe II
K20 Chevy Pick Up

I've had this project on my mind for some time now. My first car wasn't a car! It was a truck. A 79 Chevy 3/4 ton heavy duty 4 wheel drive pickup with a 4 inch lift kit. ( I told you guys I was a redneck! ) The day I got my license I entered my truck in the Greene County Fair Truck and Tractor Pulls. I loved that old Chevy! The truck was a very beefy work horse with big Dana 60 1 ton axles and springs. It had aluminum Hurricane rims and Dick Cepeck tires. I believe they were only 34" tall. If I recall we could not fit a 35" tire under the truck without steering clearance on the front!  Any how! It was a Custom Deluxe trim level truck and had a mild modified 350 Chevy engine and 400 Turbo tranny with a shift kit. It had a push bar and roll bar as well as 2 fog lights and 2 200 watt spot lights. My Dad gave me the truck and had it painted for me.  I made a lot of good memories in that truck. Since the truck was a Custom Deluxe I felt a more fitting title for it, and it's driver, would be Hillbilly Deluxe. I airbrushed up a bug shield with the name on it and installed on her, and made a new dash plate with the name on it as well. I have been wanting to build a scaled down Hillbilly Deluxe for some time now. So I guess now is my chance. I do not want to build a replica of my real truck. I want to start with a clean slate and build a bigger better badder truck, but scaled down! I have created a shopping list of parts and accessories I am going to need for this build! So let the build begin!

Well I got a package in the mail today and in it was what this build needed to steer it's outcome as to what I want it to be. My T-Rex 60 Axles came in from RC4WD, and man are these things cool! They look like little Dana 60's!  Well that settles it for me! Just kidding! These axles are going to make this build very scale looking. I need to get some more money together to order the Trailfinder chassis and my R2 tranny.
As you can see above and to the left I received my tires and below you can see my transmission from RC4WD  I also have a new Integy 55Turn Lathe motor to use on this build. I mounted the tires and put them on the axles.
I got my Trailfinder chassis and my new clod body in today and quickly mounted my tranny and axles to it. I'm really getting exited now! Here are some pics of the body sitting on the chassis. I still need to mount the body.
I got the body mounted and setting down on the chassis the way I wanted it to. Also below are pics of the just the chassis. The Trailfinder is super nice!
The shocks on the chassis are not the ones I am going to use. I needed them for set up only. I needed to know if an internal spring shock would have an affect on the over all ride height of the truck, so I could set the body in it's proper location. I still plan on using RC4WD 80mm white scale shocks. I also need to order my Punisher shafts.
I mounted a new Hitec HS-5645MG Servo to the front cross member and made my linkage rods. I also began laying out a component tray to hold another servo, the ESC, and the receiver. I then cut the tray out of a piece of delrin plastic and got it mounted. I located the second servo on it and mounted it then made the linkage from the servo to the tranny to shift it. It would worked out well as the servo mounts also keep the battery from sliding forward once in place.
I made a set of skid plate/axle supports for my High Lift then didn't like them and wound up making another set instead. The first set looked as though they would fit the front axle on this truck and they do. I am going to tweek them a little to gain more ground clearance but they will work perfect for the front. I will need to make one for the rear.
As you can see in the above pics I set up all the electronics and got the drive shafts in. The truck is drivable now and programmed in my DX6i radio. I went ahead and put a set of Traxxas shafts and steel yokes on until I can spare the coin for a set of punisher shafts from RC4WD. The speed control is an LRP Runner. It is not what I wanted for this build nor will it remain. I wanted to test the truck and needed an ESC in order to do it. I still plan on buying a Novak Rooster Crawler ESC for it later. The Spectrum AR6100 reciever will stay.
