Kyosho Beetle (Cox)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is one of the hardest kits to find of the early Kyosho Circuit buggy. Kyosho had quite the marketing niche back in the 80's. The distributed there hobby products under there own name of Kyosho but also had the bigger and better none company Cox hobby distribute there products under there name as well. The Kyosho Beetle was there answer to the Tamyia Sand Scorcher. The Beetle was based on the popular Scorpion platform and shared everything except the scorpion wheels. The wheels were off the Advance, and Assault nitro buggies. The beetle had it's own features that on it retained as well, at least through Kyosho. The beetle of course had the clear polycarbonate Beetle body and a unique radio tray cover molded from abs plastic. This covered the radio tub which was direct from the Scorpion. The body on the Scorpion covered this tub on that model so the Kyosho utilized the black ABS cover on the Beetle. The only other version of this chassis that utilized this cover was the Cox Sidewinder. I'll have more info on that at a later date. But the Sidewinder was never sold under the Kyosho name that I have seen. The Kyosho Beetle was not very well taken and suffered low sales figures through both Kyosho and through there distributor Cox. The Beetle was soon discontinued. Thus making it very hard to find this model. I lucked out big time on this one. This was a once in a lifetime Ebay find! When I found it I new that buggy was coming to my collection. I had a very large sum of money on stand by just to assure it would be mine. I got the kit for allot less than I expected to have to pay for it. I am very pleased with how nice this kit is. All original never been ran. The Lexan body has never been painted. The kit is all there with its original box, instruction sheet, and decals. Even the impossible to find driver figure is there. This kit will always be the coveted prize center piece of my collection. It was in awesome condition when I got it and only needed cleaned from being in storage. I cleaned it up and on display it went. I do plan on painting the body but I am in no hurry to do so. This is an awesome kit.
