Kyosho Scorpion Gen 3

No doubt about it! The Scorpion is an R/C Legend. The Scorpion rolled on the scene in 1982 and would continue on through the mid eighties as a dominant force in R/C 1/10 scale electric buggy racing. It was a simple yet very affective platform. A cost effective light weight sturdy aluminum platform was the bases for one of the most adjustable early suspension systems to ever grace an R/C Buggy. The Third generation Scorpion was just a variation of the original like the second gen version was. In fact the second genration and third generation Scorpions are really one in the same and could be found during the same time period. There were only minor changes, seperating the third from the second generation Scorpions. Actually you cant even call them changes. They are really just variations over the first versions that were released in early 1982. Some of the variations of the third generation Scorpion started appearing as early as late 1982. These variations would consist of most noticeable the black radio tub, and the shorter roll bar that now had a slight forward bend in it about 3/4 of the way up from its bottom. The roll bar was slightly taller than the second gen straight short roll bar, but still shorter than the tall first gen. I have also heard of the short straight roll bar from the 2nd generation Scorpions being seen with the third gen Scorpions black radio tub. I believe the short roll bars were seen more on the ready built versions that were sold under the Cox Hobbies, name. the only other variation the third gen had over the first gen were the solid center chrome wheels, that it shared with the second generation Scorpion as well. I beleive these wheels were modeld after the popular 1:1 scale Center Line solid center aluminum wheel of that time period. There are advertizing decals on the decal sheet to  inforce this theory.
This version of the Third Generation Scorpion is a Cox version. It is a dead mint undriven car I acquired through Ebay. It is mint but it  was quite dirty when I got it. ( mostly dust and  oil that had leaked from the shocks. ) I did disassemble the car and clean it thoroughly, then put it back together with meticulous detail. Below are pics of the short restoration.

Here is a vintage Cox Scorpion Add
