Project: Boxter ( Vintage RC10 Box Art Car Replica )

I fell in love with the original RC10 back in the early 90's. Though my first RC10 was a Graphite Team car and not the original version, I was still deeply passionate towards the original. I always had a longing to own one. Last year I purchased two old rc cars from my Mother-in-Law's boss. He said they belonged to his son and his son used to race them. The one car was an RC12LW in very nice condition ( only raced on carpet ) and the second was an RC10 Team Car. I thought it was a Worlds at first because it had the Graphite tranny brace, and the composite shock towers, and yellow wheels. But after looking at closer it was mealy a team car. It did light that old flame to get an original RC10. I wanted one that looked like the car on the box. I wanted that car. No other would do. So I found my self buying old RC10's, some nice some not so nice, and buying the parts I needed to replicate that car. I started with an RC10 6010 kit I traded my friend Steve for. He actually found the car at a thrift store and bought it for $19.99. That's right under twenty bucks. Not bad for a still complete car! Not bad!!!! It was the find of a lifetime! Who am I kidding! I will need to find a chassis plate for this one as the bottom is pretty rough and the previous owner ( not Steve ) had cut the side out and positioned the battery cup outward in that side to fit a regular new style stick pack in the car! I will be replacing the body with a new Protech body and wing, I will need to hunt down the wing buttons as I believe they were flat round pieces on the box art car. I found a Chassis on Ebay and got it, I also found some NOS wheels and a mint set of early RC10 tires like the ones on the box. I found a Novak NESC4 for it though I can't tell if it is a 4 or a 1 that is on the box art car, but the 4 will work. I am looking for the Airtronics receiver and servo as well. I made the front skid plate match the one on the box, and think I have found the driver figure that they used. My friend John is making me the upper shock colors, and the lower spring cups, and I stripped and machined finished a set of original RC10 shocks. All in all I am off to a good start. I need to find some G10 fiberglass and make new stock towers, tranny brace, and battery straps. I am off and rolling so keep checking back as this is one of my hottest projects right now.

It has been awhile since I worked on this thing. I had the driver figure ready to paint so I decided it was time I put some color on him. The more I study this driver the more I think he is not totally the correct one for this build. I am going to wait and see though. I want him in the buggy before I make that final decision. I can always use him in my Sand Scorcher if he is not correct. I painted the body red of course, and the helmet white. Then I added all the details. I haven't done anything with the steering wheel yet so I am using this piece of black electrical wire for now.
